Submit a 6 page essay based on the instructions below. The essay must be single-spaced, single-sided, with 1″ margins, in Times New Roman 12 point font. Reference page is the 7th page. No cover page.
All references must come from the supplied International Security Studies file which is attached. Proper citation is a must along with the proper reference page!
Essay Outline:
Introduction:
– Very Important—There need to be a clear Thesis–Thesis needs to be exceptionally clear, concise and arguable. Tells the reader what the purpose of the paper is.
Body:
– This essay should be written in first person as the President of the United states.
Describe 3 Courses of Action (COA’s) the President of the United States can implement in the region of interest. Region of interest is the Caribbean. Essay must address surrounding countries in the region as well.
Each COA must address:
- US National Interests (most important)
- Instruments of National Power
- Courses of action
- The President of the United States role in the national decision making process
- Issues of the entire region
– Ensure the thesis in the introduction is sufficiently supported by arguments and evidence which are accurate, thorough and relevant.
– Support the augments with material from the attached International Security Studies file which is attached.
– Analyze the author’s premise in the article from the perspective of the President of the United States and provide 3 Courses of Action (the ‘what’) the US should take to address issues identified in the OpEd article and in that region of the world. The region of the world is the Caribbean and the neighboring countries (at least 3).
– Most importantly, show how each suggested Courses of Action will support specific US National Interests (listed below) [the reason ‘why’ we are taking the actions]. Your COAs should cover all four US National Interests. The National Interest is: Security, Values, Prosperity and International Order.
– Your Courses of Action should show how the Instruments of National Power (IOP) will be employed (the ‘how’, limiting your discussion to the most important one or two IOPs per COA. The IOP’s are: Diplomatic, Informational, Military or economic.
– Your Courses of Action should be something you as the President of the United States can implement. (i.e. show how you (the U.S. President) will enforce/enact/encourage/recommend your courses of action for implementation in the National Decision Making Process, the ‘who’)
– Include in each COA an analysis/discussion of the issues for the entire region of the identified country(ies) and any neighboring relations in the context of the OpEd’s issues. (How would your courses of action affect other countries in the region? What about neighboring countries? the ‘where’)
