Structure of a persuasive essay
The introduction-The introduction gives the reader an overall idea of what your essay is all about. It also bears the thesis statement on which all the points are based upon. A good introduction is supposed to spark curiosity on the part of the reader to want to read further into the body of your essay.
The body-This is where the supporting points are stated. Generally, each body paragraph should bear a different point in support of the thesis or hypothesis. The ideas expressed should all lead to one focal point-which is the thesis statement.
Conclusion-The conclusion sums up the points presented in the body paragraphs. It also solidifies the writer’s position in relation to the topic while advocating for intervention depending on the issue at hand.
How to write a good persuasive essay
Writing an essay is something, and writing a good essay is another. Essays have been and will continue to be an important academic aspect. It is one of the best tools to expand a student’s thinking and researching capabilities. In case you do not know how to go about it, here is a set of rules to abide by;
- Take a stand-Make your position on a given issue known. Resolve to understand your position regarding a given topic since persuasive essays are meant to advocate or refute an issue.
- Know your audience-Understand your audience’s potential reaction towards your stand on a matter. If you are in support of the topic, how would your readers react if for instance they are against it? How would you persuade them to change their minds?
- Research-If for instance you want to persuade someone to embrace a certain product and discard the one he/she uses currently, you must be able to convince them why your suggestion is the best alternative.This entails research.
- Draft your argument-Note your arguments on a piece of paper and have someone take a look at them.This will ensure that the argument you indicate on your essay is strong and logic.
- Support your argument-An argument without proof is futile. It is like pretending to eat from an empty plate when you are really hungry!
