Snapshot: Content Roadmap

Due date: Friday 30th May 2014, by 5pm.  Submission via submission portal on Moodle.

Objective: Develop six concept maps (one for each topic) that demonstrate your understanding of the content and relationships within and between the topics. You will self-assess these and submit them along with a rationale for your mark (minimum 500 words).

Rationale:

  1. This assessment is designed to encourage you to demonstrate a strong understanding of the theory covered in the six topics in a personally relevant context, as you design the concept maps.  Research consistently shows that students learn more effectively when they apply deeper levels of processing (such as transforming content and assimilating it to what they already know) as opposed to surface learning techniques (e.g. memorisation).  Creating concept maps will allow you to see ‘the bigger picture’ when it comes to the content covered in your text, and how the concepts relate to each other, both within and between the topics.

  1. Being able to evaluate your own work and performance is very important (not just for uni or your future careers, but also other aspects of life).  This assessment will help you to judge your work more objectively in an honest, constructive, and supportive manner.
