Assignment Requirements
Read a magazine or newspaper article about the Congress incumbency and congress election. The articles will come from popular magazines, newspapers, or their websites, such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, the Wall Street Journal, etc. DO NOT USE FOX NEWS OR MSNBC! The first paragraph should summarize the main points of the article. The rest of the entry will apply course material (insights from reading, discussions, and lecture) to understand what the article means for the institutions under consideration (i.e. not just the specific member or members of Congress that the article discusses, beyond the vagaries of the immediate circumstances discussed in the article). the discussion could include any of these points:1. Discuss and explain why incumbency is such a powerful force in American politics. 2. Discuss why incumbency have high re-election rate, and what advantages do they have in elections.
