Musical theory and its interpretation

The purpose of this assignment is to listen closely to some different types of music, listening for different things, and trying to make connections with other arts from the period from which the music comes. For this you will need your textbook for this course and the musical recordings on the CD that came with your textbook. You will write a two to three page essay about your experience. The CD features Baroque, Rococo, Classic, and Romantic

Instructions

Set aside about two hours some evening (possibly inviting one or more persons to join you) where you listen to this music and think about it. Certainly, you can jot down notes that you will later use in writing up your report. You will use the Unit 6 readings (which also indicate which recordings go with the different readings) as your guide.
Listen especially to the drumming (selection #3) and, in light of what the presentation says, give your own thoughts on:
(a) whether drumming is a part of music, and
(b) what your own feelings are when you hear drumming.
Take one selection that is your favorite and tell why, giving special attention to the feelings and perhaps the personal associations that this music has for you.
